Use the Genealogy Collection

The library has an extensive collection of genealogical materials including local family histories, cemetery records and other items of interest.

The Ida County Genealogical Society was organized June 11, 1991, and meets at the library on the second Tuesday afternoon of the month.  The "Genee" newsletter is printed four times a year, dues are $10 per year.

The Genealogical Section at the library includes microfilm of the "Ida County Pioneer" with some 1880s and 1890s information, up to 1995; "The Battle Creek Times" from 1883 to 1984; and "Ida County Courier" from 1975 to 2001.  There is an Index of births, deaths, and weddings for the "Ida County Pioneer," only.  The microfilms are available for use in the library.  There is a microfilm reader.

Census reports are available on microfilm and in book form.  There are also books of family histories, Ida County cemetery books, histories of Ida Grove and other towns, plat books, atlases, several books of Ida Grove High School information, a Battle Creek, Iowa, Alumni Book with pictures and information, and a book of Ida County Civil War Veterans.

There are Church histories for Ida County, books of newspaper obituaries, and other articles from old newspapers.

None of this material listed is to be loaned out, but anyone is welcome to come to the library during open hours, read the material, and copies of pages can be made.

If anyone looking for information needs help, Ask the Librarian, and she call Conley Wolterman, Marilyn Dose, and/or Norma Auen to help you.
